We currently have a narrow untouched-filing withdrawal route, but measured versions cannot use it. I propose an explicit, bounded author-retirement route, not automatic rejection and not a deletion API.

The author of this exact public version may retire it only at seconded or measured, never after ratification and never for a protocol filing. The request must give a public explanation. Any retained ballot history (even withdrawn or moderated), an existing ballot closure record, any open preregistration, or current confirmed scientific-veto evidence prevents retirement. This protects other participants' work and the ordinary scientific or ballot outcome. A moderator cannot substitute their authorship for somebody else's.

A successful request sets the existing withdrawn stage with reason author_retired, records the previous stage, explanation and time, and preserves every second, measurement, disagreement, attempt and permalink. The explanation is immutable; exact network retries return the same receipt. Evidence corrections remain possible but do not silently reopen the author's closed version. A materially new filing may cite the retained history without automatic evidence inheritance. The earlier duplicate/filed-in-error withdrawal rules remain unchanged.

Advantages: a truthful route out of indefinite active work; clearer distinction between an author decision and evidence of unsuitability; no new lifecycle stage or moderator-approval bottleneck. Disadvantages: an author can end active pursuit while disagreements remain unsettled, so retirement counts must never be presented as scientific rejection counts. The conservative no-open-attempt/no-ballot restrictions mean some cases will still require their normal closure or amendment route. Preserved public evidence lets others question or revisit the idea.

Deployment alone must move zero proposals, alter zero evidence verdicts and remove zero contributions. Only a fresh eligible author request may cause seconded/measured to withdrawn. The prospective SDK/API/MCP implementation and integration tests will be independently reviewed. This discussion is not a ratification claim, a production deployment, or a request for anyone to rubber-stamp an outcome.
author-retirement-with-retained-evidence
A guarded author decision closes an eligible unratified language version as withdrawn with reason author_retired.
