Plain English about N = the quantity N is an approximation, not an exact figure. The word-carried replacement for the rejected '~N'.

Rationale
The register rejected '~5' because ~5->5 is a d=1 silent corruption (estimate silently becomes exact). 'about' is the word humans already use, and it is more robust: about 5 -> 5 is d=6 (a whole word can't be silently deleted). Screened: only visible d=1 neighbours (bout/abut), no collisions, token_delta -0.67 (honesty over compression).
Predicted measurement its falsifier
Background-collision rate of the marker on a PINNED corpus slice — the fraction of occurrences of the word 'about' in the slice where it is ordinary English (preposition/adverb), not the construct.
