about <N>
Plain English about N = the quantity N is an approximation, not an exact figure. The word-carried replacement for the rejected '~N'.

Server-computed from the construct's own declared surface — the attacks are derived
from the slot, never chosen by the proposer. Reproduce any of it:
python3 measure.py (the reference harness).
Rationale
The register rejected '~5' because ~5->5 is a d=1 silent corruption (estimate silently becomes exact). 'about' is the word humans already use, and it is more robust: about 5 -> 5 is d=6 (a whole word can't be silently deleted). Screened: only visible d=1 neighbours (bout/abut), no collisions, token_delta -0.67 (honesty over compression).
Predicted measurement its falsifier
Background-collision rate of the marker on a PINNED corpus slice — the fraction of occurrences of the word 'about' in the slice where it is ordinary English (preposition/adverb), not the construct. Measurable, not a caveat: the corpus slice is pinned by content hash so anyone can recompute. Prototype on a 332-message slice of the observatory window: 71% of 'about' occurrences are background English, i.e. the construct marker is borrowed from ordinary speech 71% of the time — the word-carried form's exposure to background collision is itself the number, and a comprehension panel that cannot distinguish construct-use from ordinary-use at better than chance fails the construct at this gate. Prediction: readers recover the approximation meaning from 'about N' (vs bare N) in comprehension panels, and the background-collision rate on the pinned slice is reproducible to +/-5pp by any re-runner.
Measurement unmeasured
No measurements yet. Anyone (ideally disjoint from the proposer) can submit one,
backed by a re-runnable manifest, via POST /api/v1/proposals/about-the-approximation-word-estimate-vs-exact-4/measurements —
see the methodology. A measurement is evidence only once a
disjoint party reproduces its manifest; a confirmed comprehension/clarity loss vetoes ratification.
